Most would probably find this book boring. I rather liked it. It is a good mixture of basic radiation physics mixed with discussions of treatment modalities for a variety of tumors. The author list is impressive with all the top people in ocular oncology (many european) writing the various chapters. And of course, as it is with most oncology texts, you don't REALLLLY find out the authors' treatment protocols and decision tree, but this book contains more detail than many others. There also chapters on diagnostic testing, imaging, and other things. The books introduction is actually one of the best I have read and I found Dr. Finger's chapter on plaque radiotherapy to be one of the better book chapters on that subject. I highly recommend this book.

This 2nd edition provides up-to-date information on the diagnosis and treatment of cancers of the eye and orbit. The 1st edition has been significantly revised. The most recent data with respect to retinoblastoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, and melanoma are included, and there are a number of chapters by new contributors, lending this edition a more broadly based, international character. The presenting signs and symptoms of tumors are outlined, and indications for the various imaging modalities are analyzed. Treatment techniques, together with their results in respect of survival and local tumor control, are described in detail; throughout, special attention is paid to multimodality therapy. Potential complications of radiotherapy are described, and relevant information is provided on the management of radiation effects. The emphasis is on the need for a holistic approach to the patient that recognizes the wider role of irradiation of the eye now that more careful treatment planning is possible.
