Textbook of Veterinary Anatomy Review

Textbook of Veterinary Anatomy

This text was a required book in my first year vet anatomy course. I must say, the pictures and diagrams are only adequate. Meanwhile, the actual text itself was laborious to read and so full of jargon and unnecessary detail that it literally gave me a splitting headache each time I attempted to read it. Please, please, if this is not a required textbook, don't buy it! There are much better anatomy texts out there!

Horse Owner's Veterinary Handbook Review

Horse Owner's Veterinary Handbook

I find this to be the most detailed veterinary guide, short of buying a veterinary encyclopedia. Of the several I own, most are very general and have a lot of "ask you veterinarian for a course of action." This one tells you the most common treatments so you know what to expect. I go back to my dog-eared copy all the time. As I back-yard breeder, I like Giffin's veterinary breeder's guide, too.

Clinical Veterinary Advisor: Dogs and Cats Review

Clinical Veterinary Advisor: Dogs and Cats

This is a must have for any small animal veterinarian or student. It blows the "5 Minute Consult" out of the water. There is always someone using it our practice, we have just decided to leave it out on our treatment table. It's a very concise but thorough reference for everyday use. It's well organized and easy to read. 95% of the time the information we need is in there. If not, we refer to specific books on Optho, derm etc but you could practice veterinary medicine with just this book! I highly recommend it!

Basic Medical Histology: The Biology of Cells, Tissues, and Organs Review

Basic Medical Histology: The Biology of Cells, Tissues, and Organs
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Kessel's Basic Medical Histology is much more than an overview of the microscopic structure of the human body. Yes, as one should expect, he examines all of the various cell structures, cell types and tissues. The descriptions of the microscopic structure are supported by both diagrams and color photomicrographs. However, the best part of this book is the range of transmission and scanning electron micrographs illustrating the ultrastructure of human cells and cell associations. These figures along with line drawings act as a foundation for the author's discussion of many important physiological processes that occur at the molecular and microscopic levels. This book is a valuable resource for students heading toward a clinical profession and interested in understanding the fundamental physiological activities in the human body.

This text serves to introduce students to histology. It provides a thorough and current treatment of the structure, organization and function of the basic tissue types of the body as well as the organ systems which are organized from the basic tissues. The text presents a more modern, cell biological emphasis on the subject, while also bringing out the clinical correlations of histology in every chapter. Text material is frequently summarized in the many charts, tables and diagrams that are distributed throughout the book. The organization is intended to facilitate the rapid transfer of information from the book to the student. The book is written for medical and dental students as well as other professionals who are introduced to histology during their first year of professional schooling. It is also intended to serve the needs of advanced undergraduates who often take such a course in preparation for professional schools. The book contains limited amounts of biochemistry, physiology, endocrinology and neurobiology, but a sufficient amount of material so that the student can correlate functional information to the microscopic organization of tissues and organs. Hopefully, this mix will permit maximum learning and understanding of structure-function relationships.Since the students who first encounters histology is typically introduced to a large body of information in a limited time period, we have sought to maximize the rapid transfer of information by the extensive use of summary type tables, charts and drawings. In addition, a central portion of the book contains a limited number of color illustrations which will permit the student to view and recognize stained sections of tissues and organs. The color atlas should facilitate the student's view of laboratory work.

The Cornell Book of Cats: The Comprehensive and Authoritative Medical Reference for Every Cat and Kitten Review

The Cornell Book of Cats: The Comprehensive and Authoritative Medical Reference for Every Cat and Kitten
Average Reviews:

The Cornell Book of Cats is the definitive feline health text for cat owners, cat breeders and wise vets. Its depth and range of practical advice and its clear, non-jargon-laden symptom description and treatment options are, in my opinion, without peer. It covers every aspect of feline life and demystifies the latest research and advances. Its descriptions and temperament assessments of the various breeds are accurate. One especially good feature uses simple YES/NO question 'trees' to identify symptoms and their possible causes and treatment choices. It also includes at-home remedies and, most importantly, when NOT to use these remedies. These two features alone, I've found, have 'armed' me with specifics to which a vet can more quickly respond. And, four times now, this book has pinpointed a problem that escaped a vet's initial diagnosis. You may find, as I did, that you will need no other cat health and care books.
