I don't know why I picked this book up in the library. I really did not want to read about abortion. I knew what my position was on this issue, and I knew why I believed it. I don't know why I checked this book out -- it sat on my coffee table for weeks before I even opened it. But when I did, I read the whole thing in one sitting.
This intriguing historical account of abortion, infanticide, reproduction and sterilization should be required reading for everyone who ever opens their mouth about the abortion issue. It is a balanced, objective, and informative treatment of all sides of the issue, and it is one of those rare books that actually helps you to understand your own ideas better, even as it helps you understand and appreciate why another will disagree with you.
It is a book that you will recall years later, and recommend to everyone(if you can remember the unwieldy title). But beware! This book may cause you to doubt inflexible positions and simple answers.
