(More customer reviews)Growing up, nurse Annie always had issues with her weight and those issues come to rear their ugly head when she discovers her bridesmaid dress doesn't fit and there is only six days until the wedding. If that weren't enough after a grueling workout, in an attempt to squeeze into the dress, she meets the new doctor at work, Iosef. His family is the next thing to royalty in Sydney, Australia and for some reason he takes an instant and intense dislike to Annie. All that grumpiness melts away though at the wedding that ends with them in bed together. Iosef has family obligations and can't have a relationship but still their feelings are too strong to be denied and they start seeing each other.
I greatly enjoyed this novel. Most of the time I had no clue what was going on with the medical jargon being I get all my medical knowledge from ER, Grey's Anatomy and House and things are obviously done a LOT differently in Australia, but for me that was part of the charm. The life at the hospital and the patients where interesting and very well done, along with the budding romance between the reserved Iosef and the insecure Annie. I would have easily and unequivocally given this light years better than the average harlequin five stars but, like with all harlequins there is nothing from the hero's point of view and so when we suddenly realize the reason he kept his relationship with Annie a dirty little secret I wanted to smack him, not forgive him. There was a point about 2/3s of the way through the book that was the PERFECT time to explain what was happening but he didn't. It bugs me when dishonesty keeps couples apart and if we are supposed to believe he loved her then why they heck would he let her get away rather than just be honest with her?
Aside from all that this was a wonderful story. A typical harlequin, but with characters you could relate to, interesting setting and touching love story.
