Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)"Medical Risk Management" is a timely volume addressing personal interactions, expectations, and complications between physicians and patients, although it is valuable and applicable to all medical professionals who have patient contact.
The book focuses on breaking both patient and physician personalities (and medical practice methodologies) down into different types, and follows by explaining the potential benefits and pitfalls (i.e., malpractice and sub-optimum care, and the potential for litigation) of interactions between physicians and patients with fundamentally similar and different outlooks and attitudes.
The book focuses on optimizing interactions to provide maximum quality health care, while minimizing the risks of malpractice lawsuits. It is quite good in helping practicing physicians understand their own personalities, predispositions, and biases in dealings with patients (and colleagues). The book is a bit redundant in some places, though it is very thorough in covering the material it sets out to discuss. The book epitomizes the value of interpersonal analysis and team building used with great success in other safety-critical industries (e.g., aviation) for several decades now.
For all practicing physicians interested in lowering legal liability and improving the quality of medical care delivered, I recommend this book. This book is also useful to safety professionals of other industries: although it is specific to medical practice, many of the human interaction and team building issues are equally applicable to other areas of human endeavor, especially areas where risks are high. I recommend this book to either of these groups of professionals.
