The Surgeon's Family Miracle by Marion Lennox
Harlequin Medical # 292 - March 2007
Seven years before, Ben Blaydon and Lily Cyprano were medical students and they were lovers. Their studies completed, they went their separate ways; Ben on to the Special Forces as a frontline doctor, and Lily back to her south Pacific island of Kapua to be their first doctor. Now they're thrown back together as Kapua is under attack by insurgents wanting to take over the island government. Ben's unit is the first responders. The situation is volatile; the insurgents have taken the government buildings and have hostages. One is a seven-year-old boy, named Benjy; Lily's son, the son Ben didn't know he had. Lily's always known that Ben is not the settling down type; that he doesn't do love; he walks alone. And being here on the island, and meeting his son, hasn't changed anything in Ben.
This one starts with fast paced, intense scenes as Ben and Lily face the crisis on the Island. Lily is a realist and though she loves Ben, she knows it isn't in him to commit. Ben's a good man, but he's survived all his life by holding back his affection. Ms. Lennox brings depth to these characters. We can easily feel their experiences and the struggles they face. Often writers give more maturity to children than is age appropriate, however, Benjy is one of those lovely rarities, and he's written perfectly for the role. The journey to the HEA has some lovely twists. This is one for the keeper shelf :D
The Surgeon's Family Miracle was a 2007 RITA Finalist for Best Traditional Romance
