Medical Authority and Englishwomen's Herbal Texts, 15501650 (Literary and Scientific Cultures of Early Modernity) Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)This text offers a knowledgeable insight into the medical practices of English women from 1550 to 1650. This book explores the medicinal authority of women through the evidence gathered from original "recipe" books. Medical recipe keeping was a task usually assigned to women, and therefore women had an elevated status in the area of medicine. Through the reading of this text, one can gain a better understanding of the authority of women in the area of medicine during this period of early modernity.
As a former student of Dr. Rebecca Laroche, I can attest to her dedication to the study of this time period, and her overwhelming enthusiasm for detecting and articulating the truth hidden in difficult English texts. The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs should feel lucky to have her.
