Godfraind and the other editors assembled gathered the latest research information [for 1994] on the mechanics of Ca and K channels in cells. The emphasis is slightly different from other studies that looked at the functioning of these channels under varying cellular conditions. For example, in the book's papers, there is no explicit modelling of ion concentrations inside and outside the cell, that attempts to predict flow behaviour in this manner.
Instead, attention is a somewhat higher level. Looking at the pharmacology of how the channels respond to the application of various and numerous channel openers. Also, the cells are often studied in the context of where they are in an organism. One example being a paper on channel regulation for cardiac function.
