(More customer reviews)THE DARK X is one of the most fascinating books that I have read in many years. As a physician I was, of course, interested in the medical mystery which plays a central theme in the book. This mystery is very intriguing and would appeal to anyone with an inquiring mind, as it opens up new and unexplored vistas into the disease process. THE DARK X also contains subplots of adventure in Africa, primate behavior, and romance. The author, Dr. Jerold Lowenstein, is married to a well-known anthropologist, Dr. Adrienne Zihlman, and they have together made several trips to Africa in order to study primate behavior. In this book you will learn much more about primate behavior than you ever dreamed existed, and he is able to turn this knowledge inwards to reflect upon the primate which we are all most interested in, ourselves. Because of Dr. Lowenstein's ability to seamlessly weave the various plots and subplots of this book together, I was held spellbound throughout the adventure of reading it.
